To ensure safe food products are provided by food processors in the province, a Food Safety training was conducted by the Provincial Veterinarian Office and the PSTC Batanes. It is one of the activities identified under the project “Strengthening Food Safety Mechanism in Batanes”.
The one-day training was attended by the different food processors in the province. Mostly are SETUP clients of the DOST.
A welcome message was delivered by the active partner, Provincial Veterinarian, Dr. Albert A. Tabile. He reiterates the importance of the training in acquiring License to Operate (LTO) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Before the Lecture proper, a Pre-Test was conducted to gauge the knowledge of the participants with regards to food handling. And after the training a Post-Test was also conducted to evaluate the learnings gained from the one-day activity.

Trainor, PD Nora T. Garcia, tackles the subject on Food Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices and Hazards in Food Processing. On her lecture, she emphasized that Safe Food is at the hands of the processors, that “If We All Work Together We Can Provide Safe Food for Our Customers”. She also presented the requirements needed in acquiring FDA-LTO with a hope that everybody will be able to acquire the license.
